Protection of electronics from corrosion
Protection of electronics
To give you the right solution, we have a wide and deep range of silicones from which to choose. Please ring us at an early stage; we will happily visit you and provide all the guidance you need to achieve the required performance.
Advantages of silicones
in the electronics industry
In the electronics industry, silicones are primarily used as protection against corrosion and mechanical stresses. Silicones have excellent insulating properties and are not affected by water or humidity, not even in the long term. In addition, silicones remain flexible after curing and therefore can allow for thermal expansion in electronic components. They also maintain their flexibility over an exceptionally broad temperature range and thus are the best material of choice for sensitive electronics.
A few examples of methods:
Potting
The highest level of protection is obtained by potting all the electronics in silicone. The potting substance protects the components against corrosion, UV light, air, dirt, vibration and mechanical forces as well as conducting excess heat away.

Coating
Silicone based coatings often give better protection than conventional coatings against issues like corrosion and chemicals, particularly in environments with salt water. For products that will be placed outdoors, silicones are probably the best alternative for climate protection. Depending on the number of units produced and the required production speed, we can offer several different coatings suitable for the specific case.

Encapsulation
An economic and popular method for protection is to encapsulate single components. Critical points on the circuit card are selected and these are protected with a one-component semi-flowable and neutral curing silicone grade. Tribotec has a wide array of excellent silicones for encapsulation, several of which are fast-setting in order to achieve a high production speed.
