External protection for military helicopters
About five years ago, we helped the Armed Forces to protect its fleet of Hkp 4 helicopters against corrosion and other external environmental factors. There is now a complete concept capable of protecting all the various helicopter models used by the Armed Forces.
One problem which the Armed Forces are looking to solve is how helicopters can be protected against external environmental factors during transport by, for example, sea or air. Another dilemma concerns the helicopters’ final destination and theatre of operation. Helicopters can remain on the ground for weeks and even months at a time, in tough and varied surroundings, such as rainforests, deserts or snow-covered environments. In certain instances, the equipment may also need to be protected against snakes and insects. Depending on the nature of the mission, all equipment must be kept in a state of readiness for when the order to deploy is issued. A short readiness time is therefore an important aspect of the solution.
Corrosion, shocks, vibrations, heat, cold, condensation. We ensure that everything from the smallest circuit boards to complete helicopters retain their value.
With our know-how and VpCI technology, we are able to offer complete protection concepts – during the manufacturing process and in the event of storage and transport around the world. Working in close partnership with the Armed Forces, we have developed a complete solution that protects equipment from the inside out, preventing corrosion and moisture both inside and outside the helicopter. This solution also protects sensitive equipment, such as electronics, radar and radio equipment. The product recommended by Tribotec is Milcorr, which is a shrink-wrap film that covers the helicopter before being sealed with the application of heat. Other products include Foam pads, Emitters for protecting electrical components, and the moisture-absorbing Dewpack.
